… A wise decision, I realized, as It turnt out that the rain would not stop for another six days. Luckily, I had found my recipe for a daily encouragement.

The warm milk evoked already forgotten childhood memories, the spices made the hot chocolate taste aromatic and spicy, and whipped cream on top made it deliciously creamy.

It may keep on raining outside, I really don’t mind staying inside drinking hot chocolate all day – eventually, I might even start to like January thanks to this recipe for a spiced hot chocolate!

Hot chocolate with cinnamon, vanilla and chili
For two servings
450 ml low-fat milk
15 g cocoa powder
10 g sugar
1/2 tea spoon cinnamon
2 drops vanilla essence (optionally: the core of half a vanilla bean)
1/2 tea spoon chili flakes
100 ml whipped cream
cinnamon, chocolate powder and/or grated chocolate to decorate

Heat the milk in a small pot. Mix cocoa powder and sugar, and add it to the milk while stirring.

Stir in cinnamon, vanilla and chili flakes.

Pour the hot chocolate in two cups and top with whipped cream. Optionally, sprinkle with chocolate powder, cinnamon or grated chocolate. Enjoy!
